Motorcycle fairings are of many types. In most cases, you install them in the front, while others are also for the sides. The procedures to install the same is here.

Do you like riding your bike fast? Or you’re a racer? In either situation, you should be having motorcycle fairings installed on your bike. These frames have been designed for sports and racing bikes to reduce air drags. You get several types of fairings to protect different parts of the bike.
Motorcycle fairings are of many types. In most cases, you install them in the front, while others are also for the sides. Depending on where you wish to install them, you’ll have a procedure. Another factor that affects the installation process is the type of motorcycle you own. So, let’s take a look at various motorcycle fairings you could have.

Dolphin Motorcycle Fairings
Earlier, there used to be bulky dustbin fairings to cover the front portion of the bike. This is a much more advanced and compact version of it, where you even have an extended windshield. If you see it from the side, it will resemble the profile of a dolphin.
Full Motorcycle Fairings
If you’re a racer, you should actually be having full fairings as they protect every part of the bike. It also includes a windshield.
Half Motorcycle Fairings
Half fairings mostly cover the lower portions of the bike, from the handle to the cylinder block. They’re mostly even convertible into full fairings. If you have a Suzuki SV650, you can go for it.
Quarter Fairings
These just include a windshield and a little protection around the headlight. If all you do is ride your bike too fast, this might be enough.
Installation Process for a Full Fairing Set
Normally, the full set comprises everything that the other fairings have too. You’ll be needing an electric drill and the tools provided in the fairing toolset to do the job. You can follow the order given below, and if any of these parts are not a part of the kit you have, you just skip that step. Here’s where every part of the kit goes:

Step 1: Mount the Tail Section Fairing
This goes right behind the back seat of the bike. You first drill for holes where you find the mount points on the fairing. Now, you place it behind the seat and mount it with the fairing toolset given to you.
Step 2: Fix the Front Fender
This one goes on the front wheel and gear, covering the top portion of the tire. You need to look for the bike holes to figure out where you drill holes on the fairing and place it accordingly.
Step 3: Place the Tank Cover
As the name suggests, this one covers the tank, the portion right ahead of your seat. The mount points are only present in the corner parts, so you need to do it carefully.
Step 4: Roughly Do the Front Fairing
Now, we come to the portion covering the upper front body and the area around the headlight. This part is a little complicated, so we don’t do the entire thing in one go. You can drill the holes first if you want but don’t screw it at the moment. What you can do instead is take some clips to just lock the fairing and place it.
Step 5: Take the Lower Fairing
When you take this, you will have to drill holes on your own. Since this is attached to the front fairing, you need to make the marking here and drill holes on both accordingly. You now see why we didn’t completely fix the front fairing first. You need to be extremely careful in this step.
Step 6: Just Fix Everything Else
You have the rear hugger that goes right in front of the back wheel, the swingarm covers, the heat shield slides, and the air dust covers. They’re tiny parts that you can mount with your tools in whichever order you want. Since the major part is done, installing these won’t take you very long now.
To Sum it Up
Usually, you get full fairing kits only these days for bikes. They’re most convenient as they protect every part of the bike. Motorcycle fairing prevents the bike from getting damaged in the course of an accident. They even save you from falling off the course. So, as a preventive measure, you can go to a full fairing kit.
When you shop for them, the first thing you need to ensure is that you’re shopping for your model. Once you get the kit, you can simply choose which parts of your bike actually need protection. Usually, there’s no harm in using the entire kit.
Installing them in the above order is simply more convenient. However, if you want, you can shuffle the steps according to your convenience too. For your ease, before you drill any holes, I’ll give you a little tip – just place all the parts on your bike and understand what goes where. That’ll make it easier and quicker for you.
Another thing that you should know is that this isn’t as easy as it seems. You need to be comfortable with electric drills and tools. For beginners, it is recommended that an experienced adult at least supervises you. If anything goes wrong, you might either have to work hard to do some uninstallation or, even worse, get hurt.
