How did you first get started in the dropshipping industry?
My first experience with the dropshipping industry was with MyyShop. I consider myself an e-Commerce Business Developer first and foremost. My biggest experience comes from the Fintech industry, but I believe the reality of what I do is more connected to the bigger picture of what online trade represents. How do you think the global COVID pandemic has impacted the dropshipping industry?
I would say that the COVID pandemic has negatively impacted the dropshipping industry for the most part. E-Commerce has grown with confinement measures but only within national borders. At a cross-border level, the pandemic has put logistic channels to the test. Dropshipping fulfilment was already a hot topic before the pandemic, so it has only reinforced the problem. That’s why a lot of what DHgate has been doing during this crisis is to find solutions to overcome those issues. Why do you think dropshipping has proven so popular in recent years?
A lot of people that start dropshipping have no idea that they’re dropshipping. That’s because this approach to e-commerce is so accessible. People have been enjoying social media for more than a decade now. We’ve seen many people interested in developing their creativity through online platforms. Youtubers, streamers, influencers… People like the informality of the process and how personal it is. With dropshipping, you can keep your mind focused on searching for new products and then focus on branding and marketing. Everybody is a social media expert nowadays. We go on holiday and make sure to take the best photos to get the attention of our friends and family on our newsfeeds. We are more aware of the dynamics of consumption. People want to use that know-how and focus their budget on getting an audience for products they like. There’s something fun about it. To put it simply, traditional e-commerce feels like work, dropshipping feels like a lifestyle.
What are the dropshipping trends that dropshippers should look out for in 2021?
As far as product goes 2021 seems like it will mirror a lot of what 2020 brought with the pandemic. People are still mostly spending their time at home. They need products that can help them transform their home into the gym, the office, the restaurant, the movie theatre, etc. Fall and winter should be interesting with the arrival of the vaccines. We could see a big change in product demand as soon as the world gets back to normal.
From a marketing standpoint, people are looking for a more personal approach to e-commerce. Big platforms have taken over but the nostalgia for the small-town shops is now being reflected in online consumption. People want to feel that the merchant of their goods has strong ethics, ecological awareness and a noticeable human aspect to everything they do. This is a great opportunity for dropshippers because big businesses can't compete in that terrain.
As far as supply goes, local warehouse products were already trending pre-COVID and It will only increase. Many countries have increased their border controls and imports. Dropshippers want to make sure their customers get what they bought fast and local stock is a good solution to that problem.

What are your favourite aspects of working for MyyShop and in the dropshipping industry?
I'm always looking for new challenges and Myyshop was one. The project was having a lot of momentum internally and the new team that was created is young and very excited about the project. From a business developer standpoint, I knew that developing dropshipping partnerships was a challenging task. The industry is very secretive, and the players often prefer to develop their businesses on their own. I wanted to approach partnerships from a different angle. To partner up with traditional B2C platforms despite their reluctance towards the model. So, we could be considered as allies instead of intruders within the supply chain of their merchants. I'm a firm believer that cooperation always pays off and I think it's also valid for the Dropshipping business. I knew I couldn’t rely on the traditional approach to partnerships because there simply wasn’t one for this business model. That challenge felt stimulating. If you consider that the project is brand new and is still shaping its identity, it was a good prospect for someone adventurous.
